Why do we want to talk about accountability?

In 2024, we traveled around the country to hear your thoughts and prejudices about sperm donation. The goal was to start an open and honest conversation, break down taboos and create greater understanding for both sperm donors and the families struggling to become parents.

Now we want to take the next step and focus on responsible sperm donation - because we believe in honesty, openness and education. For us, responsibility is about ensuring safety for our donors and transparency for the couples and singles who dream of becoming parents.

You can help all the women in the world
but you won't be allowed to

When you become a sperm donor with us, you cannot donate sperm to just anyone. We always make sure that sperm donation is done ethically, professionally and with consideration for both you and the future families.

That's why we take the time to get to know you so we can support and guide you in the best possible way - and why we've set a clear limit on how many families you can be allowed to help worldwide.

Our global family boundaries

Most countries have their own rules on how many families a donor can help. However, there is no international law that prevents a donor from helping families in several different countries. This means that a donor can, for example, help 10 families in one country, 15 in another and so on and so forth.

At Born, we have therefore set clear, global family limits for everyone who donates sperm with us. This means that as a donor with us, you always have a global limit of either 25 or 75 families.

We have chosen to introduce global family boundaries in addition to national rules because we believe in responsible sperm donation and because we believe it is our responsibility to provide clarity and security - both for you as a donor and for the families you help create.

Why 25 and 75 families?

The reason why the limits are set at 25 and 75 families is that the total number of families should never exceed 100 worldwide.

We want to ensure a good balance: on the one hand, a realistic number of families that can benefit from your donations, and on the other hand, a clear and responsible framework that prevents an uncontrolled number of donor children being born.

When you become a donor with us, we take the time to explain what these limits mean in practice and how we make sure they are always respected.

Our family boundaries are important to you because:

  • Even before you start donating, you know exactly how many families you can help.

  • You can rest assured that your donations are always used responsibly.

  • You gain control and peace of mind because we keep the boundaries in check for you.
